April Smith

Mental Health Clinical Counseling intern

Meet Our Therapist!

April is the newest addition to the RR staff.  She is an intern working on her Masters in Mental Health Clinical Counseling at Campbell University.  She comes to us with 20 years of clinical experience working with clients as an Oriental Medical practitioner.  She practiced acupuncture and Chinese Herbology with a specialization on women’s health and fertility issues. April trained in China and has worked in clinics in CA, NY, NJ and owned an integrative wellness center here in NC.   April is a huge advocate of the Mind/Body connection and is well versed in Reiki, medical Qi Gong, and Mindfulness techniques.

April enjoys working with clients with sexual issues, gender identity dilemmas, couples counseling and medical support counseling.  As an acupuncturist April gained lots of experience treating psycho-emotional issues such as: anxiety, depression, insomnia, grief, and adjustment disorders.  She is excited to incorporate all that she learned in her previous career with her counseling skills and wants to approach counseling with an integrative behavioral philosophy.  April’s theoretical orientation is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Person-Centered, and Emotion Focused Therapy.

April hopes to work with individuals and couples who have sexual performance issues, sexual orientation/identity issues, relationship problems, problems with coping with medical diagnoses, anxiety, depression, sexual trauma, and with those individuals who are experiencing struggles with midlife transitions due to:  motherhood, stress, divorce, loss of a loved one, or other health related conditions.

April is excited to join the RR team as a counselor and WILL NOT be integrating any acupuncture services for now (stay tuned maybe later).  April is originally from Arizona and grew up in CA. She is part Latina and hopes to educate the Hispanic community on the benefits of counseling.  She also wants to be an advocate for the LGBT-Q community. She welcomes people of all faiths, all ethnicities, and all gender identities. She is bilingual, she speaks English and Spanish.  She is open minded, non-judgmental, and has a genuine willingness to listen and help.

April spends her days taking care of her two kids, going to school, spending time with her hubby, walking her rescue dog, going to yoga class, and reading her science magazines (she’s a closet astrophysicist).

“I look forward to starting my counseling career at Relationship Restoration and I’m so honored to be part of the amazing staff.  I will do my very best to be kind, respectful, and nonjudgmental and keep a sincere heart as we work together on your journey.”
